I really hope you are not in New Orleans, Gulfport, or anywhere in near those places when you read this!
Wow -- they evacuated 2 entire cities. That's a big deal. And there are some people (specifically in the 'inner city' and tourists) who are STRANDED. Damn. They say if this hurricane makes a 'direct hit' New Orleans could possibly be wiped out. I mean, what?? That's crazy.
I don't know how much they are putting this on the news, but the tv was tuned to the weather channel for several hours today (really loud I might add) so it seems like it's a pretty big deal to me. I know S. and my old roommate K. have family in those places so they were making phone calls today (or trying to).
So I hope everyone is safe and everyone who wanted to leave was able to leave...

This was a pretty graphic, chilling portion of an article on the hurricane from CNN.com:
"So, imagine you're the poor person who decides not to evacuate: Your house will disintegrate around you. The best you'll be able to do is hang on to a light pole, and while you're hanging on, the fire ants from all the mounds -- of which there is two per yard on average -- will clamber up that same pole. And, eventually, the fire ants will win."
